Wannabee Carvers

First you need to at least find an apprentice, find out what other Tiki Carvers are using for tools. You need support that explaining cannot give for locating the type of tool and the source for the palm logs for a tiki or maybe just a board of lumber (pine) at Home Depot to make a tiki sign. Don't start carving yet, don't carve old wood, we need soft wood for practice (Basswood). Next go online and buy your Wood Carving Tools. Strip off the bark if you get palm wood, buy a
chainsaw and an electric grinder to rough cut your pattern, be careful with your mallet and chisels to clean it up, then sand it. I like the pine tikis but if you don't want something too complicated then watch Chainsaw Carving an Owl to get started. or Crazy Al Evans might offer a few tips for you. Also sign up to Tiki Central and meet some Tiki Carvers in your area.

Thatch Craze

'[TR57]

If you want to create a festive atmosphere at your next party, you may want to add Thatch. We have taken the ugliest, dirtiest places and turn them into a tropical paradise with thatch, it is amazing. Usually comes in rolls and on the inside you can just staple gun it to the walls. You
can also build structures, overhangs, umbrella frames and put the thatch on it. Be careful everyone tries to rip you off with the fire retardent, I am talking doubling the price of the product. That is a scam. I will tell you the source where the fire retardent comes from so
you can get yourself a gallon (American Fire Retardent). Tropical Tikis has the lowest price on and they will beat anyones price. You have to call the fire retardent company because their website did not work when I checked, I paid $40 for a gallon. (T: 1 619 258 3640).

Mission Tiki Drive In Theatre

Down where we live in San Diego there are only 2 Drive-in
theatres. They both (Santee
Drive-in
and Chula Vista Drive-in) are run down and lack
spirit and theme, just a bunch of potholes. We go there
anyway load up the truck, argue about space, bring our own food and
watch 5 hours of movies and hope no one is on a first date next to us
(but we sure saved money rather than going to the theatre).
The great thing about the Drive-in
is that you remember,
it was an experience
. My friend told me about a
Tiki Drive-in located in Montclair,
California. Drive-ins started in 1932 with the
purpose of creating an experience the whole family can enjoy
together. They were popular and grew from 100 to 4000, then
started to decline because too many couples were doing the naughty and
real estate made the Drive-in parking lot a waste of money, most have
Swap Meets to stay alive. The Mission Tiki Drive-in opened in
1956, they use ticket huts, they have a Moai tiki
statue garden, tiki themed concession stand and a variety
food. If your in the Montclair area with your family, check
out Mission
Tiki Theatre
for a night to remember.
